October is coming to an end, which means Halloween is getting closer. It’s a time for fun, costumes, and candy (LOTS of candy).

But just like with any event, it’s good to remember to keep it safe while also keeping it fun. So here are some tips for making this Halloween a good one.

Halloween Safety Tips for Trick or Treating

• Give your kid a costume that’s bright and reflective. Since trick-or-treating is usually done in the dark, it’s always good to make sure that your kid is very visible, whether it’s for cars on the road or just for you to keep track of them.

• Bring flashlights. Again, walking around outside in the dark can be hazardous, especially if you can’t see where you’re going.

• If your kids are older and going out on their own, plan out a route with them ahead of time so you know where they’re going. Also, decide on a time that they should be home by.

• Only approach houses that have their porch light on.

• You can also keep it safe for other trick-or-treaters by making sure there isn’t anything on your porch that will cause them to trip, driving extra cautiously if you’re on the road, and making sure that your pet isn’t able to approach any of the kids that come to your porch.

There you go—some quick tips for keeping your Halloween safe. So go buy that bowl of candy, decorate your porch, and enjoy the costumes.

And most importantly, have fun! Happy Halloween!
