Many customers and potential customers are not aware of the differences amongst the various cast processes and the major drivers that effect the decision to pick the proper process.
The major cast process are stated here briefly:
- Die Casting
- Sand Casting
- Steel Die Permanent Molding
- Plaster Casting
- Investment Casting
- V Casting
- Graphite Permanent Molding
Over the years I have received many phone calls, RFQ’s, and designs to review, only to find that the part in question does not lend itself to die casting and should be manufactured in a different cast process. Each part and design are unique, a simple set of guidelines can be utilized in the early stages of project design to shorten the time to market for the customer.
Start this process by referencing the “Casting Process Guideline.” on Premier’s website under the Purchase Checklist in our Resource Center. This Guide is to be used for those in the beginning stages of product development and design.
Please note that the “Guide” is very basic but should help those of you who need some general direction in picking a process in casting.
